Once there was a birthday girl ...

Rebecca Amir

Once there was a birthday girl with too much hair,
   and not enough love.

Living a life of purple memories she ached for a time
   that never existed;
a collective era where all was covered in snow
and lutes provided the soundtrack to a midsummer idyll of bohemia.

Where candles perched in champagne bottles
   were the only source of light;
the moon naked peered through antique windows
and cracked ice frowned as bohemians wore broken shoes
   and sunglasses inside.

A life on a page turned to a new chapter:
streets lined with gold, boots on the floor, lost one of a pair.
Love lost in experimental art;
hats and scarves and gloves strewn.
One more drop of whiskey.
