The last few leaves fall ...
by Rebecca Amir

The last few leaves fall from the violet sky
And the branches reach up, stretching to meet God
Poking through the punctured clouds
Drawing the blue air closer

You were not with us when we got off the train
And trundled through the wet city, searching for oriental food
Smiling through punctured tears
Drawing potential memories closer

Now the snow begins to fall on the cobbles
And the frost sticks, thumbing pages to keep warm
Watching through punctured windows
Drawing the blue air closer
