Bluebeard: The Seventh Wife
by Violette Taghavi
page 4

On the third floor was the library. Perhaps Violet would be reading there. Bluebeard’s hands were trembling as he found the library key. The room was very cold. He knew immediately that his wife was not there: a room could not have been so cold if she was in it! But the room was not empty. Three women where looking through the rows of shelves and one, Ruby, was sitting reading a book. It seemed as though it should have been too heavy for her to hold but she lifted it up easily as he looked towards her and he saw the title, it was called The Book of Death. He fled from the room, tearing up the stairs, and came to the fourth floor. The main room on this floor was the music room. Surely Violet would be practising her piano. He searched the one hundred keys again and opened the door, full of dread.
