5. COMPETITION
Ok, your going fifteen, you want to impress the girls, you want to look tough infront of the boys, failure is not an option. During this time "fair play" simply doesn't enter the vocabulary. For example, nobody likes to fight, especially if they're not sure how tough the competition is. So, i'm in the playground one day just loitering on the corner with my usual dorky grin on my face when "oooh my Gooooood," one boy swears at another one. Typically a huge crowd appears around the two boys forcing them right into each others faces. I don't know what the argument was about but they are usually like, "you're using my ring tone, I kill you."
"don't try it, you used my ring tone, feel my wrath slime ball."
I would say that in 60 percent of fights started betweens kids, they are usually about something totally pointless and insignificent. But, these two boys would have probably just sworn at each other and left it at that, but due to the crowd, to back down would be suicide. It is either an honourable defeat in which you put up a good fight but "lose" not that that ever happens since both hosts insist that they won, or, it is a dishonourable defeat which means you either got: totally battered to a pulp, tried to talk to your opponent in a civilised manner, got a teacher, or obviously run off preferring not to be an imprint on the ceiling. So these two boys not wanting to get into a physical fight but held there by the crowd are forced to hurl horendous abuse at each other. Well, not wanting to have anything to do with this I decide to leave, just as one boy gets pushed and the crowd, like a wave, staples me to a lamp post. After a few moments, "Hey presto," I have a front row seat, lucky me. I was stuck there for almost ten minutes. Just as I had lost all hope of ever getting another breath of fresh air a teacher comes along and immediately every one is gone. The terrible thing is, just because these two boys wouldn't just talk it out or kill each other, I didn't get to eat my lunch. However, its not just fights in which you cannot lose, its pretty much everything. From tennis games to whose done the least work to who has the most pencil shavings in there pencil case. Its ridiculous, it is this which makes P.E. (physical education) hell for some people who lack that killer instinct.
